Top notch Senior Living Community arrives in Forsyth
- Townloafer Magazine 2009

The Oaks at Post Road offers a beautiful living environment where seniors can live with dignity and respect while receiving quality assistance and care.

It is all too common that adult children are faced with the difficult decision of how to care for their parents when they are unable to care for themselves on a day to day basis. With longevity and population on the rise, chances are that you too will find yourself as the primary caregiver for a parent at some point in your life if you haven't already.
Many years ago, Nelson Salabarria found himself in this situation when his mother developed Alzheimer’s and was becoming frail. Even though he lived in Florida where there is a large elderly population, his options were limited to Skilled Nursing Homes or a small personal care home with limited security for wandering. Long before the uprising of what we today refer to as Assisted Living, Salabarria dreamed of building a community where seniors could live with dignity and respect.
Years later, Salabarria talked to his son Alex Salabarria, and asked him to leave the sunny beaches of Sarasota, Florida and move to Atlanta where Alex's brothers and sisters resided. He wanted to attain his dream and develop an Assisted Living Community.  Alex expressed his concerns, as his father was a retired developer and Alex was in the hotel and restaurant business. "What do we know about caring for seniors?" Alex asked. After agreeing to his father's request, the Salabarria family opened their first community, The Oaks at Woodstock, on March 1, 1998. Alex did not need to worry, his passion for serving the elderly gave him the skills he needed for true success.  By September of 2006, they rode the waves of having developed the reputation of delivering the best senior care in Atlanta and successfully opened a second location, The Oaks at Riverstone in Canton, Georgia.
Once the Canton community opened, Alex's brother Nelson and brother-in-law Doug chose to leave their companies and careers behind to join the family business bringing over fifty years of construction and development experience to the Salabarria team. "Based on the fact that we locate our sites, design, build, and operate them ourselves, we now have a perfect family team to continue to grow in our passion and vision for senior housing," stated Alex.
A third location opened in March of 2009, The Oaks at Post Road, is the result of the Salabarria fami¬ly's hard work and vision. Their commitment to being per¬sonally available to their residents and families, to provide the best staff and staffing ratios, to provide their residents with wonderful amenities, and to provide a beautiful and comfortable home, is what separates them from others.
"I learned many years ago that the key to success is to surround yourself with great people. One of the largest blessings we have had is the people in our organization. We rarely lose any of our management team and have one of the lowest turnovers rates for care staff," said Alex.  The management team has averaged 3 to 10 years of tenure with the Salabarria family. This low turnover, is what Alex believes causes a positive culture and family feeling amongst them. The outcome is evident—great quality care in an environment that is filled with love and compassion.
"Our Lord has blessed my family with the opportu¬nity to care for seniors in our communities. It is a bless¬ing we do not take lightly. It is not just a job, business, or career. It has become a moral passion and a way to give back to our Lord by helping his children here on earth," Alex commented.
The Salabarria family is proud to be a part of the Forsyth County community with the opening of The Oaks at Post Road. The location was carefully chosen for its quiet and relaxed atmosphere and for its close proximity to churches, shopping, and medical facilities. The caring attention, along with the many activities that meet social, recreational, and spiritual needs, will enable their residents to build friendships and stability.
The Salabarria family invites you to experience what true family ownership of an Assisted Living Community means by visiting The Oaks at Post Road. Not only will you find comfort in knowing there is a community nearby to properly care for your parent, you may also find yourself looking forward to the day you too will qualify to move in and enjoy your senior life!
