Meet the Staff at Oaks at Post Road
The Oaks Senior Living communities are staffed with professionally trained caregivers, selected for their knowledge, compassion and understanding of residents’ needs.
Claudia Butler Executive Director
I’ve always prayed God would give me a purpose in my life and career. For 11 years I stayed home with my children. During those years, I led bible study classes and volunteered at my church. Looking back it was a wonderful time in my life. When it was time to go back to work, I dreaded it! I had no idea of God’s bigger plan. Working at the Oaks at Post Road for the past 6 years, I can honestly say I love my job and coming to work every day. It is a joy working with families and seeing how we make a difference in the lives of our seniors. I always say the Oaks is my second home; we are family.
Keith Ashley Community Relations Director
I have always had a fascination with the elderly. As a young child, you could usually find me on my elderly neighbor’s porch listening to her stories. My mother raised eight children, and all of us are in some way working in a field of ministry.
I began my study of piano at the young age of 5, and it soon became a passion. I attended the University of South Carolina, Aiken where I pursued a Bachelor of Independent Studies with a concentration in Music and English Education as well as a Minor coursework in Psychology. I was fortunate to be able to study privately with Concert Pianist, Dr. Antoine Cordahi of Cairo Egypt for five years.
In 1983 I became a Minister and began working in several large congregation churches. I was involved with the Music and Arts departments and also with the elderly outreach and Counseling. In 2001 I went to work in the Methodist denomination where I formed a group called J.O.Y. Just Older Youth. We enjoyed many outings and participated in community service.
I was called to Pastor North Forsyth Community Church in 2001 and knew it was where I was supposed to be. We began ministries to the elderly at several assisted living communities and eventually found our niche when we started a very successful ministry with the Oaks at Hampton. When the Position of Lifestyle Director came open at the Oaks at Post Road, I knew in my heart this was for me. Surrounded by thriving, exciting and fascinating people, each day is an adventure, and I can’t wait to see the opportunities afforded me working with our wonderful residents.
kenneth Howard Assisted Wellness Director
I would like to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Kenneth Howard but please feel free to call me Kenny. I recently moved to Georgia from Maryland. I have over 25 years’ experience in the medical field. I’ve worked in just about every area from pediatrics to geriatrics. While I’ve had great experiences throughout my career, I feel the elder population is the most rewarding. Our elders have a wealth of knowledge and experience that we all can learn from. From their time spent in the military, raising a family or the type of work they did. They all have a story to tell. I look forward to getting to know your loved ones and you as well.
Makieu Davies Horizons Wellness Director
I was born in the East-End of Freetown, the capital City of Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is a tiny country on the West Coast of Africa with a population of 6.5 Million. From a very young age, I was fascinated by and had great admiration for nurses and loved being around the elderly. This early passion of mine left me spending hours with the elderly in my community; especially, my grandparents, listening to endless stories about the “good old days”. Oh, how I loved those stories. I would also walk to the nearest hospital in my neighborhood, in admiration of the “magic” nurses use to care for their patients.
The opportunity to be a nurse, and eventually work with the elderly came to fruition after I migrated to the United States in 2000. My first employment was in Maryland, with the Children`s Guild Special Education School, as a one-on-one instructor. This was a completely new experience, in the sense that, my country has no special provision for individuals with disability. In most cases, individuals with disabilities are either cared for by their parents or left on their own. The experience was profound, and reinforced my desire to pursue a degree in nursing, placing me in a better position to work with the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
I graduated with my LPN certification in 2010 from Georgia Piedmont Technical College. While at school, I was unanimously elected as class President by my colleagues. My faith has always been a guidepost in every decision I take. My church members elected me Women`s Fellowship Leader in recognition of my commitment to my education as well as to my church family. I am married with three children. Prior to working at Oaks Senior Living, I was employed as Wellness Nurse at Ivy Hall Assisted Living for two years. I was later promoted to the position of Wellness Director and served in that capacity for two years. I started working at Oaks Senior Living in May 2017. I enjoy working with the staff and residents at the Oaks at Post Road. In effect, the Oaks became a second home to me, and the residents and staff are a part of my extended family. I look forward to every minute of my working schedule.
Sharon Heard Business Office Manager
Cumming was a small town when our family moved from Fort Valley, GA to be near my grandparents. My parents raised my sister and I in the home my dad designed until we were grown and off to college. After raising my own family and teaching college Accounting, our family had the opportunity to care for my dad in our home. My husband, our teenage children and I worked to care for dad for six years then after a fall he moved to the Oaks at Post Road. I am now honored to serve the Oaks community as Business Office Manager which brings together my business training and heart for the elderly. As both a family member and employee, I can say my dad is truly in the best of hands and I am proud to be a part of such a loving and dedicated group.
Annette Boakye Lifestyle Director
I was born and raised in Ghana located in the south western part of Africa, a city called Tema and popularly known as the Harbor City. I am married with four children. I graduated in 1999 with a degree in purchasing and supply chain management.
I have always been interested in fashion and the fashion industry. After two years of working in Ghana, I established my business and traveled to Italy to buy fashion lines to sell in Ghana. In 2004, I moved to the United States to join my husband with an intention to continue my career in the fashion industry, and to travel around the world.
I started working at an assisted living community and quickly learned my passion was serving elders. Four years later, I joined Oaks at Post Road as a med tech, then nine years later I was promoted to Lifestyle Director. Being part of the Oaks family has been an exciting journey and a great blessing for me. The Oaks is a place I call home. A place filled with compassion, laughter, joy and love. I pray that God gives me the strength, ability and knowledge to continue to serve these amazing Elders.
Michelle Kacer Horizons Lifestyle Director
I am originally from a tiny town East of Scranton called Waymart, Pennsylvania. I loved growing up in the North East and living in an area where we had four amazing seasons and things to do and places to visit all year long. The North East fostered and nurtured a long lasting passion for hiking, backpacking, snow skiing as well as other outdoor activities. I feel blessed to have spent countless hours as a child and young adult in the great outdoors. I also have a strong interest in traveling and have been very fortunate to have visited countries on four continents and 32 states. I’m just as happy getting in the car and driving a few hours across the state line as I am jet setting half way around the world. Professionally, I received my BS Degree in Applied Behavioral Science from the Pennsylvania State University and my Masters in Social Work from Marywood University, both in PA. Over the years I’ve had the distinct pleasure to work with at risk youths in public schools and partial hospitalization settings, migrant education, and most recently working with caregivers of injured service members and the injured service members themselves.
Now that I’m at the Oaks and working with seniors I’m able to round out my professional work experience with just about all the age groups. And although I don’t have a long work history with the geriatric population I do have a passion for and many years of experience working with individuals who need some extra attention, love and patience. Each day I work hard to fill the resident’s time with stimulating and meaningful programing while engaging them emotionally and mentally. It’s a rewarding job and I feel lucky to service the residents here at Post Road.
Becky Menard Food Services Director
My grandfather spurred my interest in the joy of cooking when I was just a small child. He owned a restaurant in Woodstock, NY named the Millstream. I spent many days with him and my grandmother in the kitchen. After I married, my husband and I moved to Southern Louisiana in Acadia parish. This is where I learned to prepare many of the authentic Cajun dishes that I served at home. When we returned to Atlanta a close friend was opening a Southern style country restaurant and asked if I would help her part time until she became established. This part time help lead to managing the restaurant for a period of seven years. The restaurant industry was not really where my heart was. The Oaks at Post Road is the perfect place for me to be. We are working with grandfathers and grandmothers. Desserts are my specialty and preparing them fresh for the residents brings joy to my heart.
Coleman Schlenke Maintenance Director
I was born and raised in Atlanta—and was proud to call Atlanta home. After nearly 8 years in the insurance business, I felt a calling to become a Firefighter. After serving the citizens of Cherokee County, and retiring as a Fire/Medic after 18 years, I am very fortunate to be serving the residents of this great community. I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity, and glad to be working at the Oaks at Post Road as the Maintenance Director.
