In Memory of Ted: A Legacy of Service, Joy, and Unwavering Faith
One of the greatest pleasures of serving residents is bearing witness to their lives and legacies. Every individual’s story has meaning and purpose.
One such story worth sharing is that of Oaks at Hampton resident Ted Roosevelt Brown. Ted, who recently passed, was more than a resident—he was a cornerstone of Oaks at Hampton, embodying the values of compassion, dedication, and joy in everything he did.
From the moment Ted joined the Oaks family over 11 years ago, he made a profound and lasting impact. Whether through his role as Postmaster—faithfully delivering mail with a warm smile and kind word—or his leadership in community tours, worship services, and music programs, Ted led with generosity and heart. As the leader of Hampton’s resident choir, The Crown Jewels, and a key figure in organizing patriotic events as a decorated WWII veteran, he demonstrated a deep commitment to both community and country.
Ted’s contributions extended far beyond his formal roles. He served as head of the Welcome Committee, personally greeting new residents and taking the time to learn every name—often keeping a handwritten list of each individual who joined the community. His attentiveness and ability to make everyone feel seen and valued reflected a rare and genuine spirit.
Faith was at the center of Ted’s life. A devout Christian, he lived out his beliefs daily, often sharing his testimony and offering guidance with humility and grace. His joy was contagious, frequently expressed through his love of music—particularly hymns—which he sang freely throughout our halls. Even in his final days, his heart remained full of song.
Ted’s efforts were formally recognized when he received the Georgia Senior Living Association’s Award of Excellence in the Volunteer Category—a well-deserved honor that underscored his decades of service and impact.
Those who knew Ted describe him in three words: faithful, grateful, and genuine. He was faithful to his faith, his beloved wife Maggie, his family, and his community. He was grateful for life’s blessings and made a point to express it. And he was wholly authentic—a person of integrity and kindness who never met a stranger.
Ted often shared his personal mantra for a meaningful life:
“Always Choose Happy.”
We are grateful for the time we shared with Ted and for the indelible mark he leaves on Oaks at Hampton and Oaks Senior Living as a whole. His legacy will continue to inspire us all.
