What is Respite Care?

Respite care is temporary care provided when family caregivers need short-term breaks from caring for a loved one. This type of care can be either planned or used in case of an emergency and is primarily used to support a family caregiver or provide relief when they cannot complete their loved one’s care. Respite care can range from several days to several weeks depending on the situation and the services offered by your local community.

It’s important that family caregivers utilize respite care or support from other sources to prevent caregiver burnout and the stress that is often associated with caring for an aging loved one. Be sure to contact your local community for availability as respite may not be offered if the community is full and/or has a waiting list.

What Makes Oaks Respite Care Different?

Our senior living communities offer programs designed to alleviate the stress that family caregivers often face when trying to juggle care with maintaining a household and a career. No matter the length of stay, your loved one becomes part of our family and receives the same great care and amenities provided to our residents.

Oaks respite care services offer socialization and stimulation in an environment with trained caregivers. This is an opportunity for seniors to make new friends, develop new hobbies and otherwise socialize in ways they may not get to. Our focus and care delivery is based on a “Person-Centered Lifestyle” that focuses on the unique desires and needs of each resident and moves away from an overly structured approach. This encourages independence and personal choice to ensure all residents enjoy the highest quality of life possible.
