Monthly Caregiver Support Group at Oaks at Douglasville

Preventing caregiver burnout is important to us at Oaks at Douglasville, an assisted living and memory care community in Douglasville, Georgia.

When you are the primary caregiver for a parent or family member, it is essential that you take the time to care for your own health. Neglecting your personal needs can lead to caregiver burnout. One way to help with the stresses of providing care for your parent or relative is to participate in a caregiver support group.

3 Benefits of a Caregiver Support Group

Emotional Support

It is common to feel isolated and alone when caring for a parent or relative full-time. Caregiver support groups help you realize that you are not alone. Listening to others’ similar experiences and sharing your own provides an outlet for your emotions and creates a sense of community.

Gaining Perspective

It is easy to feel like you are the only one who deals with the stresses of family caregiving, but caregiver support groups show you that others can easily relate to you. Gaining the perspective of other caregivers can make a huge difference in your personal caregiving experience.

Access to Advice and Additional Resources

Other caregivers may be in your exact situation. It can be helpful to hear how they are dealing with these circumstances and what has worked for them, enabling you to implement new techniques into your caregiving routine. Learning new ways to handle your caregiver responsibilities and finding new resources may make your caregiving journey easier.

Listening to others’ similar experiences and sharing your own provides an outlet for your emotions and creates a sense of community.
